Early Language and Literacy Initiative ~ Room to Grow (RTG)

Enhancing Early Childhood Environments, is a program of

Child Care Resource & Referral, Inc.

Too often, the connection between a child's environment and his or her behavior is never realized. The ELLI/Room To Grow program makes this connection for educators in the child care community.

ELLI/RTG uses the Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS-R) and Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS-R) to assess classrooms in participating centers. CCRR specialists who have achieved 85% or higher reliability, administer these assessments and then provide an action plan to enhance the quality of the environment in each classroom as well as the program structure.

CCRR specialists and outside presenters provide staff trainings on the ITERS-R/ECERS-R scales, quality environments, The Creative Curriculum, brain development, Conscious Discipline and Musikgarten. On-site mentoring and consultation services are provided for one year.

The Room To Grow program is a strong example of using research-based methods for building quality where young children grow and learn.
